Because it comes so well tuned from the factory, the S2000 does not respond well to certain modifications. Poorly designed parts can easily degrade performance, so choosing our modifications carefully will be crucial.

S2000 AP2 (2004 & +) Specification:

Honda made certain that the S2000's F1 bloodline was apparent. When introduced, the car featured a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter powerplant, called the F20C, that shrieked to an incredible 9000rpm and produced 240bhp-an amazing 120bhp per liter. Beginning in 2004, the F20C engine was upgraded to 2.2 liters and, as a result, realized an increase in useful torque at somewhat lower revs. Redline, however, was lowered from 9000rpm to 'only' 8000rpm.

Compared to the original 2.0-liter motor, the F22C produces slightly more peak torque (162lb-ft vs. 153lb-ft) at only 6200rpm instead of at 7500rpm, as rated by Honda. That may not seem like much, but remember, this is still a Honda. Finding an extra 9lb-ft is harder than questing for the Holy Grail.

Because of alterations in the spring rates and shock absorber damping, as well as revisions to the rear suspension geometry, the AP2 chassis is less prone to snap oversteer, compared to the original AP1.

2008 S2000 C/R:

The club racer-inspired 2008 Honda S2000 CR Prototype making its world debut at the New York International Auto Show introduces a higher level of track-worthy performance and style to the S2000 roadster, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.

The S2000 CR will be available as an entirely new S2000 trim level when it goes on sale in the fall of 2007. The lighter, stiffer and more aggressive overall design is engineered to maximize the S2000's potential on a racetrack with the goal of substantially-improving track times, chassis balance and feel. The factory-tuned roadster provides highly-aggressive suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity, overall weight reduction and an aerodynamic body kit dialed-in for reduced lift. An aluminum hardtop replaces the convertible soft top as standard equipment.

''The S2000 CR is the closest thing you can get to a Honda-built racecar with license plate holders and a horn,'' said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. ''Its features and equipment are designed to appeal to weekend club racing enthusiasts.''

The full-body aerodynamic package reduces lift through large and highly-tuned front and rear spoilers. Exclusive chassis features include a quicker steering ratio, Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, a wider rear tire size, firmer springs and dampers, larger stabilizer bars and a new wheel design in a dark gray color.

Substantial structural bracing has been added to the storage area previously occupied by the soft top, resulting in additional rigidity. The aluminum hard top replaces the soft top of the conventional S2000, resulting in an overall weight savings of approximately 90 pounds when removed (relative to the current S2000).

The exclusive interior is highlighted by unique cloth seating surfaces with yellow stitching, a unique spherical aluminum shifter and carbon fiber-style trim panels. Air conditioning and an AM/FM Stereo with CD player are optional equipment. Standard features for the S2000 include 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, ABS and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). While VSA serves to effectively enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant it.

Widely considered the quintessential roadster-style sports car, the S2000 is the performance icon for the Honda brand and combines uncompromising racetrack-ready performance with everyday usability. The S2000 rewards driving enthusiasts with a potent 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine and a precise, short throw 6-speed manual transmission, along with tenacious handling and a perfect 50/50 weight balance.

The renowned high-revving engine delivers 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 lb-ft. of torque at 6,800 rpm. Perfectly complimenting the engine's output characteristics is a compact, longitudinally-mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and quick throws. Combined with a front and rear double wishbone suspension, precise electric power steering, and a torque-sensing limited slip differential, the end result is a complete, no compromise, performance package for the enthusiast driver.

• Public pressure was strong to replace the plastic rear window design with a glass window, equipped with a defroster, which became standard for 2002 model. The window is smaller in size and the top frame was redesigned to accommodate the glass.

• The UK Press release states “.. for 2002, there is a significant change in the suspension’s fine tuning. Spring rates have been increased, anti-roll bar stiffness reduced, and the gas-filled dampers (shocks) recalibrated. The changes have been made to improve steering feel and handling progression at the limit, while maintaining the response, grip and balance of the original S2000.” {All three changes would be for an understeer correction.}

• Anti-roll bars: Front & rear sway bars were reportedly changed. Originals were F: 28.2 mm (1.11") x 5.0 mm, R: 27.2 mm (1.07") x 5.3 mm. A new ‘02 owner says his measures: F: 26.11mm and R: 27.35mm.

• Springs: ‘ 02 rear springs have a new part number.

• Early stereo complaints were addressed in the 2002 model with an upgrade from 20 to 30 watts per channel and the addition of door mounted tweeters. The door speakers are blue-plastic, have no 'paper' cone, magnet is still small, but owner’s report the 2002 sounds vastly better.

• The solid aluminum shift knob could be cold as ice in winter or very hot in the sun, for the 2002 model it was changed to a combination leather and aluminum knob.

• The black interior color shade has changed to a dark grey or charcoal bluish black shade.

• The stereo has digital bass/treble/fade/bal controls. You push the right knob and set them as opposed to small black knobs that you would push to pop-out.

• The tonneau cover changed. There is only 1 clip on the each side to push in from underneath. The elastic bands straps on each side remain the same. Reportedly its easier to attach and doesn't appear to 'flap' up like previous design.

• The shade of wheels are a slightly darker silver with a little more metallic-flake.

• Heat and A/C fan are more powerful. The 2nd and 3rd fan speeds are noticeably more effective.

• A chrome ring has been added to the tail-lights.

• A metal ring has been added to the interior door panel pulls.

• The horn reportedly has a different tone.

• The plastic trim piece that outlines the dash, as well as the trapezoidal plastic plate in which the roof and hazard buttons sit, are made of a different color/finish plastic – a gray, grooved plastic rather than the bland black untextured plastic.

• The cupholder cover and trash hole behind it are textured plastic as opposed to the same untextured earlier ones.

• Interior leather and plastic colors have changed. For example, earlier Silver cars came with a combination of red and black interior. The 2002 model comes with a solid red interior (dash, doors, center storage, etc.).

• Radio design and color changed.

• It’s said to have improvements in the transmission to make it smoother and provide quieter shifts.

• The dead-pedal is now metal/rubber and matches the other pedals.

• A leather console cover replaces the carpet console cover.

• The buttons for the defroster and cruse-control on switches are a different shape.

• The new window defrost button is the cruise control on the right side of the steering wheel.

• There is a small subtle change in the trunk lid shape at the rear, near the trunk brake light. Reportedly this was to meet the Federal safety standard measurements.

• The tach indicator line is now white and the scale connected by a solid white arc line.

• The outside Honda badges are larger.

• A second post has been added to the carpeted floor mats to secure them.

• There is very limited cockpit storage in the race car tight confinements, so door panel net storage pockets were added for the 2002 model but they are too small for anything but perhaps a garage door opener.

• Paint color changes were made. In the US, Sebring Silver replaced Silverstone Metallic (the newer is a brighter silver). Suzuka Blue Metallic was added.

• Some interior colors were changed in 2002, for example, the red & black interior of the Silver car was changed to ‘all’ red.

• At mid-model year the banjo bolts in the engine lubrication system were upgraded from two-holes to four-holes each.

All 4 OEM S2000 Spark Plug Covers
(Non, il n'y en a pas juste 2...)

1. Honda part number 12331-PCX-000 was fitted to all production S2000s worldwide (i.e. all F20Cs) from launch in 1999 until the car's re-fresh in mid/late 2003. It has a black "crinkle" finish with brushed H logo to the left of the "DOHC VTEC" lettering:
Image

2. Honda part number 12331-PZX-A00 was fitted to all F22Cs worldwide from 2003 through the end of production in 2009. This includes North American model years '04-'09 (the U.S. AP2), and Japanese ABA-AP2 models sold starting in November 2005. This version has a smooth, gold finish, and the H logo is replaced with "HONDA" spelled out in the company's trademark font:
Image

3. Honda part number 12331-PCX-010 was fitted to all F20Cs worldwide starting with the car's re-fresh in mid/late 2003 through the end of production in 2009. This includes all non-U.S. and non-JDM cars, plus the Japanese LA-AP1 and ABA-AP1 models sold after the re-fresh. This version retains the black crinkle finish, but incorporates the "HONDA" lettering:
Image

4. The final version is not available in any parts catalog; the photos below are from early/mid-1999 promotional materials and magazine reviews. (If you ever see one of these, buy it!) Presumably just a few of these pre-production versions were made, and they were fitted to the F20C motors in the company's prototype cars. They feature the black crinkle finish, but the H logo is located to the right of the "DOHC VTEC" letters, and it's oriented toward the front of the car:

Les TPMS sont pour les 75% des gens qui ne vérfient jamais leur pression des pneus et qui se promènent peut-être avec des pneus pas assez gonflés. L'impact négatif de ceci, ca augmente le CO2 dans l'atmosphère, donc encore plus de pollution. Sur une voiture, ca change rien dans l'atmosphère, mais sur des millions de voitures, ca peur faire toute une différence.

Donc au moins avec les TPMS, la personne a de bonne chance d'aller remettre de l'air.
